Over the past 20 years SW Mixing consoles have become famous through their extraordinary signal processing quality and superb sounding equalizers and are known by audio professionals to be one of the finest the market has to offer.
To insure the highest possible level of reliability only components were used, which had proved themselves for years in our own products and devices of other manufacturers and were rock solid and long lasting.
So over the years we developed a know how in software and hardware unique in its variety and depth. In late 2001 we ceased the serial production of these systems.
1978 - 1983
After several years at Telefunken/ANT (a German manufacturer of high end mixing consoles) the engineers E. Schmidt and L. Wergien created the new brand "SW" in 1978. The innovative power behind all led to a variety of mixing consoles made for audio production and live performance use with a continuously increasing level of quality.
1984 - 1989
In the mid 80s the technical quality of our systems met IRT standards. In 1984 we started a research project, aided by the government of Niedersachsen (BRD), which focussed on the development of digitally controlled analogue signal processing devices.
1990 - 1994
In September 1990 L. Wergin and M. Korfhage founded a new company, called WK-AUDIO. Its business objective was the development and production of processor controlled analogue mixing consoles for professional use in the areas of audio production and live performance and to convert the results of research and development from the 80s into tangible products.
1993
Based on the SW SERIE D-3500 the inline console D-2002 was launched. Its sound and noise data were as perfect as the D-3500. However, it was more affordable and until today is still regarded as unique. The D-2002 is an example of analogue high-tech, which can still outplay digital systems.
1995 - 2001
With the assistance of J-J Koch, the chief sound engineer of the Darmstadt theatre at that time, the digitally controlled and fully automated analogue mixing console SW-CONCERT came out in 1995. It set new standards in stationary mounted mixing devices. This system enabled the user to save all parameters as snapshots, which could be automatic regenerated in a timeline scenario. This fine piece of equipment also corresponds to IRT specification. The unique logic- and security concept, developed by WK-AUDIO, permitted system operation without any computer connection. Its uncommon user interface permits direct access to nearly every parameter.
1998
In 1998 WK-AUDIO created the SW-ACTION, a less expensive alternative to the "big" SW-CONCERT “to accommodate the economical situation of many theatres. Fader positions and EQ, as well as all switches were totally resettable from snapshot to snapshot. All level pots and pan pots were controlled by a classical recall system. The SW-ACTION also met the requirements of the IRT.
2002 - 2004
In close cooperation with STEINBERG - especially with Mr. Martin Stahl - WK-AUDIO conceived and developed the ID-Controller, probably the best audio controller in the world: Our intensions were aimed at the creation of a controller which was optimally compatible to the production software NUENDO developed by STEINBERG. In doing this it was extremely important for us, to prepare the controller optimally for future NUENDO features whereby soft- and hardware structures repeatedly required detailed fine-tuning. During corporate product planning completely new or highly upgraded NUENDO features were created. The total result is without doubt a perfect tool for professional audio engineering. This generated a positive resonance amongst visitors and specialized magazines at the presentation of the prototype during the AES 2003 in Amsterdam (e.g. STUDIO MAGAZIN). In summer 2004 we started to ship the first units.
2009
ID-CONSOLE is the “New flagship” by WK-AUDIO. Created in late 2009, the ID-CONSOLE substitute the well-known “ID-CONTROLLER” | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
